The Ingonyama Trust’s Rural Economy Development and Investment Indaba commenced at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on 30 September 2026, bringing together traditional leaders, public-sector representatives, investors and other stakeholders around development and investment on Trust-administered land.

Proceedings were disrupted during the first day. South African Index, Civic Ledger’s primary reporting source for the incident, reported from the venue and published photographic and video material documenting the disruption.

According to South African Index, the interruption involved a group associated with Ngizwe Mchunu and Phakelumthakathi amid objections concerning the event and the relationship between the Ingonyama Trust Board, traditional leadership and King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

The disruption affected the opening day of what remains a two-day programme. The Ingonyama Trust’s official event information schedules the Rural Economy Development and Investment Indaba for 30 September and 1 October 2026.

The second day is scheduled to continue with more technical engagement around investment, land tenure, development processes and engagement between prospective investors and traditional structures.

Civic Ledger will record material developments arising from the second day and any resulting investment, procurement or development opportunities.

What it means

The disruption did not end the scheduled two-day indaba. The programme remains set to continue on 1 October, making the second day relevant to investors, developers and other parties tracking projects on Ingonyama Trust-administered land.
